Inducted Hall of Fame 1996
Dedication from the 2007 National Dutch Show in Kalamazoo Michigan
Tony married his wife Jeanette in 1946, which started a 59 year love affair. He and Jeanette had a daughter, Paula, and a son, Tom.
Tony had been a master breeder of Dutch rabbits for over 40 years. He was a life time member of the ADRC, ARBA, MSRBA, and the MDRC. He was one of the original breeders inducted into the ADRC Hall of Fame in 1996. In 1967 he joied the MSRBA and in 1978 he received their Master Breeder Award and in 2003 the Distinguished Service Award.
In 1988, Tony was a co-founder of the MDRC. He served the club as President and Vice President and Director. He was instrumental in bringing the National Dutch Show to Michigan in 1992.
Virtually every Dutch breeder in Michigan, and many breeders across the United States, has had a Micallef bred rabbit in one of their Dutch pedigrees. Tony was always helping the youth get started in Dutch, usually donated his rabbit to them.
Tony loved his rabbits and would spend hours in the rabbitry. Early on when the family would go on vacation, he would literally pack up all the rabbits and cages and take them to his good friends, the Ehnis's, to take care of while he was away.
Tony had been in ill health the past couple of years and couldn't attend very many rabbit shows, but he owned his beautiful Dutch till the day he died.
He was so excited to learn that the MDRC had the bid for the 2007 NDS. His biggest dream was to attend one more National Dutch Show.
Tony, we are sorry your dream did not come true but we know you will be with us and your Dutch bunnies during the 2007 NDS.
We love and miss you
